The flowers
When
Flowers are ideal for recurrences such as birthdays, baptisms, weddings and especially for sentimental relationships. It is opportune to carefully evaluate the type and quality of the flowers that are to be given. Avoid, for example, to give flowers to somebody just before going to the theatre: the bunch of flowers would be awkward to handle and may ruin before the end of the night.
The quantity
Flowers should never be given in an even quantity, nor should they be given in dozens. It is, however, wiser to give one rose rather than three or five. The ideal number is eleven. Each type of flower has its own particular significance.
The card
Always remember to include a card with the receivers name (which should always be hand written) with the flowers. A card that is the same colour as the flowers would be ideal. White cards with coloured print would also be fine.
How
In order that the flowers last as much as possible, it would be ideal to pick them in the morning with a clean diagonal cut of the stem right at the start of the blossoming stage. Carefully evaluate their positioning when arranging them in a vase: if the flowers are to be placed in a corner, arrange the longer stems towards the walls and the shorter stems towards the front of the bunch; if the flowers are to be positioned in the centre of a table, the taller stems should be positioned in the centre of the bunch whilst the shorter stems around the taller ones.
