The kitchen sink
THE TAP
The tap that is to be matched to the kitchen sink, can in most cases be:
- a mono-command mixer
A single lever that turns the water flow on and off and at the same time regulates the intensity of the flow
- traditional tap with two knobs. This kind of tap requires three holes. To adjust the water temperature it will be necessary to use both hands. This solution is indicated for traditional style kitchens.
The versions with a long and tall outlet and extractable spout are recommended
MAINTENANCE
The chromed finish version is the more resistant. To maintain the taps in good condition for a long time, it is suggested to dry them thoroughly each time they are cleaned. Never use steel-wool or abrasive sponges, use only soft and damp cloths. The calcareous deposits can be removed by rubbing either a lemon over its surface or a cloth that has been soaked in warm vinegar. In this case, anti-calcareous products should be avoided as they may damage the chromium plating.
STAINLESS STEEL
Finishings:
- shiny: this version is delicate, it scratches easily and looses the shine with time. It is, however, the most refined finish
- satined: is practical and functional as the scratches due to weare are not easily detectable.
- dekor: this is a non-smooth finish which is extremely resistant and does not scratch easily.
Maintenance:
Wash with a neutral soap detergent and non-abrasive sponge. The tap should be dried after being cleaned in order to avoid the formation of calcareous deposits which, in any case, can easily be removed with an appropriate detergent or with warm water/vinegar solution and lemon juice. Lemon juice is ideal for removing rust stains as well.
GRIT
This is the result of a blend of cement with pieces of marble and granite that have been finely ground. Grit is commercially available in various colours. It is hard and resistant.
Maintenance: Clean with water and a creamy detergent.
CERAMIC
This product is the result of a combination of clay and particular substances that undergo a heat treatment. The surface of this type of sink is resistant to high temperatures, hygienic and does not absorb odours. Only violent impacts will cause abrasions to this type of surface.
Maintenance
Wash with detergent and a non-abrasive sponge. To liven the white colour, use diluted bleach. For calcareous deposits, apart from commercially available products, a solution composed of water, either vinegar or lemon juice and fine salt may be used.
SYNTHETIC SINK CORIAN
This is a combination of an acrylic resin and natural minerals. Impact resistant material which can only be damaged by impacts with heavy and sharp objects. Scratches can be removed with appropriate abrasive products. Corian is heat resistant but it is best to avoid direct contact with boiling pots or water. If this should be the case, allow cold water to run over it.
Maintenance: it can be cleaned with water, a sponge and a slightly abrasive detergent. Periodic use of bleach as well as specific calcareous deposit removers is recommended.
FRAGRANITE
This is a composite of natural granite which is solid, non-toxic, scratch and heat resistant.
Maintenance: It can be cleaned with water and a neutral detergent.
DURALAST
This type of sink is composed of a resin that is both light weight and resistant. It is shiny and brilliant. It also resists high temperatures, does not absorb stains and resists those chemical agents that are normally present in normal detergents.
Maintenance: it may be washed with water and a neutral non-abrasive detergent.
